Quick Add from another app
Quick Add uses the macOS Services menu to send selected text to Astramar for review before it is saved. It does not silently record selections or monitor applications in the background.
Set up Quick Add
Section titled “Set up Quick Add”- Open Settings → Quick Add.
- Choose Open Keyboard Shortcuts.
- In macOS Keyboard Shortcuts, enable Services → Add to Astramar.
- Relaunch Astramar and the source application if the service does not appear immediately.
The Settings page can show Quick Add as installed and ready inside Astramar. macOS does not give Astramar a reliable readback of the exact Services checkbox state in every app, so a missing menu item is usually a macOS enablement or app-support issue rather than a deleted library.
Save selected text
Section titled “Save selected text”- Select text in another application (up to 10,000 characters).
- Open that application’s Services menu, or its contextual menu when Services are available.
- Choose Add to Astramar.
- Review the proposed phrase title and body.
- Search for or choose the destination folder (you need at least one folder).
- Choose Save Phrase.
You can also capture into an AI Prompt format from Services when that option is offered — capture still shows a review step first.
When the service is missing or fails
Section titled “When the service is missing or fails”- Confirm Add to Astramar is enabled under macOS Keyboard Shortcuts → Services.
- Quit and reopen Astramar, then quit and reopen the source application.
- Try TextEdit first if a third-party app does not expose Services clearly.
- If Quick Add says there are no folders, create one in the library and try again.
- If the selection is too long, shorten it under the 10,000-character limit.
- Create the phrase manually in the main library when the source app cannot offer Services.
